Laboratory for the Study of the Solid State for the Pharmaceutical Industry (FARMASOLID)
FARMASOLID Lab has since twenty years an intense activity for the study and characterization of the solid state for the pharmaceutical and chemical industry in particular for APIs producers. We have several collaborations and consulting activities with primary industries of the field.
Main activities offered are the following:
STRUCTURAL STUDIES
Powder diffraction (Cu-K and Mo-K radiation) in flate-plate and capillary set-up also at variable temèperature for phase identification, quantitative phase analysis of polymoprhs mixtures, crystalline/amorphous quantification, possibility of synchrotron diffraction and fast measurements for samples undergoing radiation damage
Single crystal diffraction for crystal structure solution (also at variable temperature)
Crystal structure solution from powder diffraction
Determination of local structure of amorphous APIs by total scattering
Stability studies as a function of temperature and pressure
POLYMORPH SCREENING
Use of conventional evaporative crystallization techniques (also with microwave), crystallization in sand bath and vapour diffusion-hanging drop method, spherical agglomeration and transient emulsion by the use of three solvent method (good solvent, poor solvent and bridging liquid). Polymorph screening and polymorph stability studies are also carried out (if desired) by combinig experiments and computational modelling
MORPHOLOGY AND PHYSICO-CHEMICAL PROPERTIES STUDY
Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with Electron Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS)
Thermal analysis (DSC, TGA)
Measurement of rehological properties
Surface area determination
FTIR and Raman
Hot-stage optical microscopy
